Why I care

I believe that an understanding of one's psychology can greatly benefit the lives of every individual, not just those with 'mental health conditions' or those referred to a psychologist due to clinical symptoms.

The notion that one should only seek psychological growth or support if they have a significant 'problem', is becoming recognised as sorely out-dated. We may all benefit from the science of psychology and what we know to be true about human wellbeing, stress management, performance and connection. This emerging interest has been termed life coaching, or positive psychology, as it pertains to enhancing one's life, rather than just returning an individual to 'normal' or baseline.

The notion that we can all benefit from an understanding of wellbeing & human psychology has become more apparent over the last few years, during which the uncertainty and isolation of Covid took heavy psychological tolls,  overwhelming people's natural capacities to cope and increasing the need for anxiety treatment. If you've experienced this, you're not alone.

Due to the increasing demands of the modern world, it is becoming more necessary to actively develop one's skills for wellbeing, resilience and performance rather than waiting for the challenges of life to force us to seek support, or to change through pain and necessity.

The practice of growing and adapting by choice rather than under duress is extremely rewarding, working simultaneously to reduce suffering and enhance performance.

Even a few sessions of structured self-inquiry and skill development in positive psychology can save years of anxiety and time, which could be better spent living a fulfilling life. Many individuals hold only a vague idea of who they are, where they wish to be, and how to get there. When these factors are clarified, we are more able to lean into growth and cultivate our own version of wellbeing & success. This allows us to be both who we really are and, importantly, who we choose to be. This is why I am committed to this work.

Becoming a counsellor

My passion for exploring what it means to live well led to the study of philosophy and psychology. After applying my understanding of these disciplines to my own life, great benefits became apparent in my wellbeing, productivity and relationships.

Impressed by the degree to which one's psychology could influence one's experience and results, I continued to apply what I knew of the principles of psychology throughout my young adulthood, while living in Australia and England, and appreciating different cultures through travel. I learned from diverse groups of people and experiences, which deepened my interest in the power of perspectives, applied psychology and the understanding of wellbeing.

Whilst I had studied a bachelor of science in my early twenties, at the age of twenty-four I went back to university to study psychology. I developed a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based frameworks and now use an integrative approach, in order to best assist others in cultivating their personal wellbeing and success.
